Winter Recess 2021 Edition

Winter has definitely returned and appears to be with us in the coming days as we head into the Winter Recess. Here are some updates as we go into the break next week.

Winter Sports

Our winter sports seasons are underway for those sports that have been cleared for competition. Games will be available to view to stream on the West Genesee Athletics Twitter account @WGAthletics. 

Below is additional information that is related to COVID-19 testing for athletes: 

• During Winter Recess the testing times will be:
• Wednesday February 17: 11:30a.m.-12:30 p.m.
• Thursday February 18: 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.

• After Winter Recess during the season:
• 9^th/10^th Graders will be tested Mondays during their lunch periods
• 11^th/12^th Graders will be tested Thursdays during their lunch periods
• In the evening/afternoon there will be a time for remote students and team coaches pending some final scheduling

Travel and General COVID-19 Reminders During the Break

As we enter the Winter Recess next week please remember to remain vigilant with hand washing, masking, and distancing. We need everyone's help to keep COVID-19 numbers down and not have a break spike. Below is an excerpt from a letter sent from Superintendent Bills and Board of Education President, Kim Coyne about travel reminders:

• Travelers must obtain a COVID-19 test within three days of trip departure, prior to arrival back home in New York. The traveler must, upon arrival in New York, quarantine for three days. 
• On day 4 after arrival home, the traveler must obtain another COVID-19 test. If both tests are negative, the traveler may exit quarantine early upon receipt of the second negative diagnostic test.

Class of 2022 Vaccination Reminder

Recently our nurses sent out a reminder for members of the class of 2022 to remember to get their Meningococcal vaccine before the start of school next year. We send these reminders out early because it is something that often sneaks up and sometimes becomes an issue for students when they start the school year. There may be further difficulty this year given the difficulties of getting into a doctor's office due to COVID-19 restrictions.
