 Safety

safety sign
As you may have seen on the news, there is a TikTok challenge taking place across the country that encourages students to vandalize and steal from schools and post these escapades to their TikTok accounts. We are continuing to have an issue at WGHS with bathroom vandalism and theft. Soap dispensers have been ripped off of the walls, refills are stolen regularly, and there has been inappropriate writing on the walls. Each time this occurs we are forced to lock down those bathrooms until they can be cleaned and restocked. This is an inconvenience for all of our students who are using the bathrooms appropriately. Please take the time to speak with your students about respecting property and our shared spaces. We encourage any students who witness these destructive acts to come forward and tell an adult so that we can hold those students accountable in accordance with our WGHS Code of Conduct.

wear masks
In addition, we spend a lot of the day asking students to wear their masks over both their nose and mouth while in the building. Students do get mask breaks, but outside of that they must wear their masks properly. We are doing our best to avoid this being a disciplinary issue, but we expect students to follow the COVID-19 safety protocols, and there will be disciplinary action if a student refuses. Please reiterate with your student that while we recognize that the rules at school do not apply to many places outside of here, they are expected to comply with all of our COVID-19 safety protocols while on school grounds.

Halloween Festivities!

Flyer
Halloween is right around the corner and students have always enjoyed dressing up at the high school, and we love seeing all of the creative costumes. Students continue to be welcome to wear costumes on Friday as long as they are school appropriate (no weapons, full face masks, inappropriate clothing, etc). Students must continue to wear a mask in accordance with our COVID safety protocols.

Please join us for our first ever Trunk or Treat event this Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 5:00 PM - 7:30 PM at WGHS. We are so excited to see all of the kiddos in their Halloween costumes! All of the WGHS clubs/activities are coming together to host cars for trick or treating. A $5 donation per family is suggested to help our senior class with their Make-A-Wish fundraising and Positivity Project initiatives. We hope to see you there!

Ski Club

Ski club is back and cooler than ever (pun intended)! They will be going to Labrador Mountain on Thursday nights, starting on January 6, 2022. Please have your student see Mr. Dowler in room C133 for more information.

Have a great week!

October 9 Update!

It was a great week at WGHS! Students and staff are settling into their routines as we close out the first 5 weeks of school. This week students participated in a student-led spirit week, dressing with a different theme/color each day. It was wonderful to see so many of our students join in on the fun!

The WGHS Pep Rally was a success!

Please join us in thanking Maura Secor, Kristin Good, and all of our STUCO members who designed, organized, and made the pep rally a huge success. Grace Lannon and Kylee Barry deserve a special shout out for doing an incredible job leading the event!!  This was our very first pep rally outside, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Staff participated in an intense game of Minute to Win It, and students crushed it during a wild game of Family Feud! Huge thank you to Cameron Reina who stepped up and did an incredible job as our DJ! Also, Julia Klaczko who kept the energy high as our wildcat! Thank you to all of the performers who worked so hard to make this a great event!

Safety Protocols:

masked smiley
Just a friendly reminder as the cool weather starts to roll in, and we are holding more indoor events, all visitors to the high school must follow the building mask mandates. Students, staff, and any visitors must wear a properly fitted mask (covers your mouth and nose) at all times. I know our students are hopeful to have spectators at our various building events, and this will only be possible if we are able to count on everyone to arrive wearing a mask and keep it on the entire time they are in the building. Thank you very much for your cooperation.

Make a wish

WGHS Class of 2022 Make-A-Wish Fundraiser

Each year, the Senior Class hosts a Harvest Dinner where the students work as servers and bakers.  Due to the pandemic, we have yet again decided to postpone this event.  However, children still need our support!

We are raising money for Make-A-Wish to help grant wishes for children with critical illnesses. No matter the circumstances, every child deserves a childhood. Life-changing wishes wouldn't happen without the power of donors like you. Your support gives children much-needed hope for brighter days ahead. For 35 years, Make-A-Wish Central New York has brought transformational wishes to more than 1,900 local children and families.  But we're not done yet.

Your donation today will help make every wish come true. Together, we can continue to be a light of hope throughout this time of uncertainty--and beyond.  Last year, our amazing community made it possible for us to give more than ever before, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  Please help us to meet and maybe even to surpass last year's donation!  Thank you for your support of our annual dinner and for your support right now!

pizza
In addition to donating online, students and staff will have the opportunity to support the cause every Thursday during the month of October. The Senior Class will be selling pizza after school by the main entrance for $2 per slice and all proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation! Our first week was a huge success!

Finally, mark your calendars for our first ever WGHS Trunk or Treat event! We have been missing our Halloween Carnival, but with safety in mind, we are moving things outdoors for Trunk or Treat! We can’t wait to see all of the kiddos in their costumes. See the flyer for details!

We hope you all enjoy the long weekend!
